Frequently Asked Questions
Use our measuring tool above for step-by-step instructions. Otherwise, start by sketching the layout of your kitchen and labeling each wall. Measure the full length of every wall, from corner to corner, then measure from the floor to the ceiling in multiple spots to check for variations. Mark windows, doors, gas lines, plumbing, and electrical outlets. The more details you capture, the better your design will turn out
All you need is:
- Tape measure (preferably at least 25 feet)
- Pencil
- Graph paper or printable template
- Level
- Smartphone or camera for photos
Bonus: A laser measurer can help with precision.
Measure the distance from the floor to the ceiling, then subtract the height of your base cabinets and countertop (usually around 36"). This tells you how much vertical space you have for wall cabinets. Don’t forget to account for the space between the countertop and bottom of the wall cabinets—typically 18".
Measure from the floor up to where the countertop will sit (usually 34.5" for the cabinet box, plus 1.5" for the countertop). Measure the wall length along the floor and mark any appliances or obstructions like vents or outlets.
