Cheapest Quality Kitchen Cabinets Online: Where the Savings Are Real

The cheapest kitchen cabinets that are still good quality are usually ready to assemble cabinets with a plywood box and a real paint or stain finish, bought from a store that publishes its prices. RTA saves money because the cabinet ships flat and you click the box together yourself, not because the cabinet is built to a lower standard.
That distinction is the whole game. Some savings come out of shipping, labor and overhead, and cost you nothing. Others come out of the cabinet itself, and you pay them back later under the sink or on a sagging shelf.
Where the money in a cabinet price goes
- Shipping a built box. An assembled cabinet is mostly air, and air is expensive to ship. A flat packed cabinet takes a fraction of the space.
- Labor to build it. Someone has to put an assembled cabinet together before it ships, and that time is in the price.
- Showrooms and selling. Display kitchens, rent and a long quoting process are real costs, and they land on the buyer.
- The cabinet itself. The box material, the finish, the drawers and the hinges.
The first three can be cut without touching quality. The fourth is where a cheap cabinet stops being a good one.
What never to cut
The box material
Plywood holds screws, carries a full shelf without sagging and survives a wet sink base. Particle board swells once water reaches its core and does not recover. On a cabinet meant to last, the box is the last place to save. Our checklist for judging RTA cabinets goes through every part worth checking.
The finish
Real paint and stain can be cleaned and touched up. Paper, thermofoil and melamine wraps are coverings bonded to the surface: they can peel or lift, and they cannot be repaired the same way.
The drawers and hinges
Drawers take the hardest daily use in a kitchen. A solid wood dovetail drawer box on full-extension glides lasts; a stapled box on cheap runners racks and sags. Soft-close hinges that adjust keep doors lined up for years.
Where cheap cabinets usually cut corners
- Particle board in the back, the bottom or the shelves, even when the sides are plywood.
- A printed wrap that looks like paint or wood grain in a photo.
- Thin shelves that bow under plates and pans.
- Hinges and glides without soft-close, sold as an upgrade.
- Missing trim: fillers, panels and toe kick priced separately or not offered at all, so the finished kitchen costs more than the cabinet list suggested.
How to compare prices fairly
- Compare like with like. Plywood against plywood, real paint against real paint, dovetail drawers against dovetail drawers.
- Price the same list. The same cabinets in the same sizes, with the fillers, panels and trim the room needs.
- Add freight. Compare the delivered total, not the cabinet subtotal.
- Read the return terms. A low price with no returns is a different deal from a low price with a clear policy.

Ways to pay less without buying worse
- Buy ready to assemble. The same cabinet costs less flat packed than assembled. See RTA vs assembled cabinets for the full trade.
- Get a free design first. A designer lays out the room with real cabinets and prices it, with no obligation to buy. Mistakes are the most expensive part of any kitchen.
- Order a sample before the kitchen. A full sample door is $19.99 and a quarter door sample is $4.99, shipping included, and the sample price is refundable. It is the cheapest way to avoid a kitchen in the wrong finish.
- Buy for a business? Ask about trade pricing. Contractors, remodelers and designers can apply to our Trade Pro program.
What our cabinets are
Every kitchen cabinet we sell is a plywood box with a solid wood face frame, 3/4 inch plywood shelves, full overlay doors on concealed soft-close hinges, and a 5/8 inch solid wood dovetail drawer box on soft-close, full-extension glides, in real paint and stain finishes. The box goes together on SnapCore, a licensed click system, about 10x faster than traditional RTA cabinets built with cam locks, dowels and glue. Every price is printed on its product page, with no login and no quote to request. Start with Sterling Snow, our classic white shaker.
Questions
Are cheap kitchen cabinets worth it?
Cheap is fine when the savings come from shipping, labor and overhead. It is not worth it when the savings come from the box, the finish or the drawers.
Are RTA cabinets cheaper than assembled?
Yes, the same cabinet costs less flat packed, because you are not paying to ship a built box or to have it built first.
Is particle board acceptable for kitchen cabinets?
It is cheaper, but it swells when wet and does not hold screws well. For a kitchen, plywood is the better box.
Do you price match?
No. Every price is published, and we will go through a competing quote with you line by line so you can compare the build.
